In an unusual deal, CBS will air a comedy show that normally runs on the cable channel TBS, “The Bill Engvall Show,” on Monday night, and in exchange will get publicity for its fall line-up on TBS, Variety reports.
The repeat, “set to air Monday night at 8 on CBS,” will promote the second season of the sitcom, which will start on June 12 on TBS, which is owned by Turner Broadcasting.
For CBS, the deal includes not only a new-to-broadcast piece of programming, but also a major promotional campaign — free — on TBS this fall for its new shows, Variety said.
The idea was Turner’s, according to Variety. CBS thought “The Bill Engvall Show,” would fit well within the broadcaster’s Monday night comedy block.
Turner is aggressively promoting the second-season premiere, hoping to top last year’s introductory rating of 4.1 million viewers. The scripted show, starring a comedian actually named Bill Engvall, offers “a humorous look at what it takes to be a parent in today’s world,” according to Turner.
